Wait why do people favor the clouded leopard over a pit?

I prefer to enter interspecific matchups from a more scientific point of view, discussing the evolutionary benefits of each animal morphologically for the most part. But here is what I voted for:

Spinosaurus
Tiger
Livyatan (megalodon is overrated beyond belief...)
Cougar
Carcharodontosaurus
Cougar
Lion
Clouded leopard

kingkazma, maybe because they seem to be far more efficient hunters. I would always favor a felid over a canid at parity, simply because they were in general more heavily-built (muscular), had the far greater capacity to grapple with their forelimbs, and generally had longer canines.

I revised my opinions here and even gave brief explanations. Over the course of the last two months, my opinions have changed on a few of the matches here (though many are still unchanged).

Actually a coyote is more robust than both lynxes and bobcats. And this is not a hunt or ambush, it's a fight this is a animal evolved to hunt mostly helpless prey, vs an animal bred for over a hundred years for the sole purpose of fighting. Longer canines aren't always so beneficial as they break easier , and the canid has the advantage in bite force and pain tolerance. And as for hunting, staffys can stop BOARS, less impressive dogs can stop boars. 20 pound honshu wolves could stop boar. The hunting argument holds up terribly.

Wow, this poll even ended worse for the lion than the one in the thread. I remember it was pretty close, in the beginning.

Size doesn't matter with robusticity. A domestic cat is usually more robust than a dog much larger than it

I think our most popular matchup is tyrannosaurus vs spinosaurus(due to highest amount of posts) imo.

Do you have data to back this claim? There are small felines there are less robust than coyotes and different other canines, I'm quite sure that felis catus would be the same. We a thread about bone robusticity with a lot of data btw.
