Well the feminate nature of domestic dogs has always been recognised in the use of the term "bitch/bitches", and "dog" to describe undesirable women. |

This video is priceless. It's the most impressive feat I've seen of any animal. He even managed to give 1 of the lionesses a nose bleed. |

"Yesterday morning my guests and I witnessed an incredible sighting. We heard audio of our large male Lion and went to investigate. As we got visual of the male and our largest Lioness we noticed a large male Leopard up a tree. Lions and Leopard do NOT get along. Lions will kill Leopard and Leopard cubs and Leopard will kill Lion cubs. The two Lions were under the tree harassing and roaring at the Leopard. About three minutes later a Crash of three Rhino wandered into our sighting, a male and two female, and started chasing the Lions away. The Leopard jumped down out of the tree and tried to jump into another tree but missed. As the Leopard missed the Lioness grabbed the Leopard by the rump and the Rhino came and chased the Lion off again. The Leopard ran off, perused by the Lions the whole while. He climbed another tree trying to escape but only reached a small branch where he was very uncomfortable. The Lions started roaring again and the Leopard jumped down and there was nowhere to run, being caught between both Lions. The male Lion caught the Leopard but the Leopard fought back. Then again the Rhinos chased the Lions and the Leopard managed to escape and run off into the bush!" Wow that's amazing. The leopard ought to be thankful to those rhinos. If they weren't there, he'd be 1 very dead leopard. |

Correct, the Leopards ability to run from a fight almost matches that of a Tiger. At least the Leopard has the excuse of beign outsized/outnumbered, whereas Tigers just dont like interactions with animals that can fight back. |

Awesome, guess the lions looked for hyenas or cheetahs to pick on. Edited by 221Extra, Mar 27 2018, 11:17 AM.

Yeah that video with the injured leopard is still one of the best encounters I've found so far, given the nature of lions. This was a whole pride with cubs so it's remarkable how the leopard managed to escape safely. Not all leopards flee when they notice a lion

Not all Leopards are that lucky. Two lionesses killed the Dudley Riverbank 5:5 male. ![]() The Dudley Riverbank 5:5 male patrolling through his territory. Although male leopards typically establish a territory far from where they were born, this male never strayed too far from his birth place. "Sadly the final chapter of this male’s life is a tragic one and about two weeks ago, he was killed by the Tsalala pride of lions. Although we found him already injured, the tracks showed that he was ambushed and severely mauled by the two adult lionesses that have been secreting cubs in the rocky outcrops along the Manyelethi Riverbed. Judging by his wounds it must have been an intense and prolonged battle. He was outnumbered and outsized and eventually succumbed to his wounds later that same day." http://blog.londolozi.com/2016/07/06/lions-kill-leopard-a-tribute-to-the-dudley-riverbank-55-male/ |

It depends on many things. Female leopards will never be able to repel an attack while male leopards have proven to be strong enough against lion(esse)s. They either defend themselves successfully or they get mauled when outnumbered or heavily outsized. However, I've yet to see a healthy male leopard getting killed by a lioness. |

yes I still do think a healtu 8 year old male leopard can defend himself pretty wel against 1 lioness. Mostly they get killed by two or more. Airstrip male was killed by 2 but remember he was past his prime, and blind in 1 eye |

Male leopards usually die becouse of mauling by multiple lionesses, not becouse a lioness went for the throat. One on one, a male leopard will be able to repel an attack and escape to safety. |

Quite fascinating how these animals are capable of fighting off and defending themselves against rival predators more than two to three times their weight and size. The leopard's agility and ferocity is not to be underestimated, even by the king of the beasts. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=82&v=X9p56wSzsPA Edited by Mitch Carter, Apr 23 2018, 02:09 AM.
