I thought this thread would be primarily about the leopard's cunning nature

and it's abilites of avoiding and ''outsmarting'' lions. Some really great

videos and pictures were posted.

But it started heading in the direction of pure fanboyism.. some people

thinking a leopard could match, severely injure or (I'm waiting for that

one..) even kill a lioness is just plain stupid (no offence to anyone)!

There are so many interesting interactions posted on londolozi and malamala

blogs where leopards used their incredible abilites in outwitting their foes,

not by brute strength, but by shere cunning and I'm hoping more such

accounts will be posted in the future..

I think a large male leopard could put up a fair fight against a lioness.
Wat?

I don't understand the complaining of the accounts of Lions killing Leopards, the topic title is: "Lions vs Leopards". not every single account is gonna show the Leopard making the Lions look like big clumsy oafs now! rolleyes

Not really a 'VS' picture but it does show the size difference pretty well. That is a very ballsy leopard.

Ok, maybe I went abit far, but a large male leopard would certainly not be an easy kill for a lioness, especially if the leopard rolled onto its back.

Even an enormous male close to 80 kilos is 45 kilos smaller than a lioness, so no chances.
But can make a good fight, that end in max two minutes.
It is more interesting to predict in how many minutes the fight should end.

Of course the lioness is gonna kill the leopard no matter what, But it wouldn't be easy.

Ottawa male leopard. This is proberly the 2nd biggest leopard ever know to walk the Sabi Sands. Bigger than Camp Pan. Every ranger I spoke said this leopard was huge tipping the magical 100 kg(220 pounds).

I found out that it is this male which you see in this video. So it is clear that even the biggest leopard is much smaller than a lioness. Proberly 1.4/1.5 times heavier. It is the same with boxing or weighlifting in humans. Body weight makes strenght. So even if the smaller species is pound for pound stronger it is allmost impossible to overcome such a weight difference.

If it is the Ottawa male leopard in the video, so imo he is far from the 100kilos, and rangers have told you fairy tales and biased statement.
A 100kg animal will not look so small in front of a 120kg average animal.

PS: The leopard in your shot is really impressive.
But i really don't know if he is 100kg or if it's him in the video.

The only thing i disagree with marc, i don't believe there is, was or will be a leopard in @ 100 kilos in sab sands.
I doubt even a full 90 kilos as maximum

I would back a 220lb leopard over a 220lb lioness.

I would too - but the reality is that would be an extreme freak of a male leopard v a runt of a lioness.
