@Allosaurus atrox: Can you give us an example of that? Actually, Tursiops truncatus and Pseudorca crassidens are even able to produce fertile offpring (which is usually the definition of being the same species), and they aren’t just classified as separate species, but also separate genera. It modern African and Asian elephants were reptiles, they’d probably be in the same genus too. And yes, I can, actually. When they repeat it three times in a row (here→, here→ and here→) while everybody else spells it correctly tough, I tend to point it out tough, for your own good, or at least that’s the kind of thing I would want someone to notify me of (for example, I’ve got an issue with spelling the word length–almost every time I write it it seems to come out as "lenght"–which I usually don’t even notice by myself). I did, three times in fact, in my post that you spell checked. But for a few more examples: A. Plains Zebra. How many times has it been split into separate (sub)species? B. Lions were once widespread and had many "races", before mans ignorance reduced their range. C. No two chimps are copies of each other. |

And does the fact that there is individual variation prove that chimps and gorillas belong into the same genus? Also, I’m still not completely sure what it is you want to argue. The only actual scientific controversy is about whether they are the same genus, or two separate genera, yet you are talking about species all the time. |

Can we just drop this? I don't want to start a raging debate. You call it G. brancai I'll call it B. brancai.

your opinion holds no ground here as you've produced nothing to back it up. think that way all you want, it doesn't make it any more valid. |

Does your opinion? No. I simply do not see enough skeletal differences to warrant the separation of G. brancai from the Branchiosaurus genus. |

I've yet to express my opinion on the matter, so unfortunately your statement makes no sense. however, from what i've seen your comparisons are rudimentary at best & do not hold any ground as to whether the two taxon should be considered synonomous or not. There is more reason to believe they are distinct taxon then them being synonymous. Unless, of course, you can bring forth evidence to confute this. |

I feel like Puertasaurus is slightly taller than the other two. |

I think the tallest dinosaur was definitely some kind of Brachiosaurid-like dinosaur. Based on bones i would say Sauroposeidon was the tallest. The estimated length of Breviparopus is 130 ft. (39-40m), if the proportions are derived from giraffatitan. "Brachiosaurus" nougaredi would be similar in length as Breviparopus, but if the proportions are derived from Sauroposeidon, he could overshot 40m |

What two? Breviparopus is said to be similar to Sauroposeidon or a little larger, around 37 m. Brachiosaurus nougaredi was probably even larger. Lets keep in mind that both species remain quite unstudied. Edited by Thalassophoneus, May 27 2015, 05:08 AM.
