If I wrote that one wolf kills moose for you it will be ok, if snow leopard kill yak, the yak should be injured and old. I think you do not love cats. But cat alwayes kg to kg more powerful than canids! It is fact! |

Can small dog for example fox terrier kill human female ? ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal_dog_attacks_in_the_United_States ) Can weasel kill rabbit 10 times bigger than weasel? Than I ask you what is the problem that snow leopard can not kill big yaks, horses and camels? Edited by Irbis, Mar 25 2015, 08:54 PM.

You're too rude Molosser, the problem is that you throw a "50kg cat versus a 400kg camel" from nowhere, as far as i know, we have no indications of the specimens involved in the study, no weights, no sizes, no context. It could have been old, injured, sick camels against big male Uncia, also, captive camels don't fight or defend their life as well as wild animals. And there are numerous accounts of predators killing preys 7-8 time their weight. (wolf killing bison, puma killing moose, leopard killing eland, lioness killing girafe etc) So i don't understand why you have hard time to believe this, moreover this is from a scientific paper, not an old story from a dark book. PS: i am not speaking of the Uncia-pack of wolf accounts. Edited by ManEater, Mar 25 2015, 08:53 PM.

Snow leopards do not like wolfs and avoid them, because snow leopard will be always injured to fight the wolfs. In this story snow leopard want to pass valley, five wolfs saw the snow leopard and tried to kill him. Snow leopard defend himself and kill 3 of them. Two others kill snow leopard. Wolf in this region is smaller about 40 kg. I do not say that snow leopard always can kill 3 wolfs, even puma which is bigger than snow leopard avoid pack of wolfs. Snow leopard did not hunt these wolfs, he defended himself, only way out was to fight. Snow leopard live in the one of the most extreme habitat on Earth, people often can not even breath there. But snow leopard can jump, run over this rocky mountains, it means snow leopard should be very powerful cat not a kitty. Read document and you understand that it is research not anecdote http://snowleopardnetwork.org/bibliography/Johansson_et_al_2015.pdf Edited by Irbis, Mar 25 2015, 09:43 PM.

I wasn't talking about the guy I was talking about the article, I didn't mean to offend anyone. "I do appreciate your efforts, these articles weren't easy to find I bet. but that doesn't mean I believe everything I read online." I made it clear that I meant no disrespect. great..this story is not believed, but a wolf....sitting next to a dying bison for days, waiting for the natural death..is the ultimate bison killer. |

uhhh....the snow leopard may arguably be lbs for lbs stronger than both the cougar & leopard...it takes tremendous physical strength, dexterity & explosiveness to move with THAT type of consistent, effortless & extreme agility... that Snow leopard was just goofing around...moving in dimensions that virtually all other felines(minus the clouded leopard) with have great difficulty to replicate.... the mountainous region in which the Snow leopard lives may be the biggest clue as to just how much immense power this feline posses...in that habitat, a predator forged & specialized in such an environment would have to posses a higher capacity for strength & mobility-out of sheer necessity. Criminally underrated predator |

Shin many people in this forum underrate snow leopard, because of smaller size and lack of information)) I was in India in Hemis and saw this cat, even takes photos of snow leopards. In Himalayas it was difficult for me first days go up stairs in hotel. But snow leopards run, jump and live in this habitat. Their muscles should be very efficient.
