![]() Officials of the Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR) have identified the leopard that is said to have killed a bull on an abandoned tea estate at Parunthumpara in Peerumade on Sunday. An official of the PTR (West) on Monday said that it was not a tiger that killed the bull, as reported in a section of the media. The leopard was caught in a camera trap set up by the PTR in the area where the carcass of the bull was found. No similar incidents have been reported from there in the recent past and there is no need for panic or concern, the official said. He said that in case there was a recurrence of attack, efforts would be made to trap the leopard. The area is nearly 500 metres from the forest. It is an abandoned estate and there is no human habitation in the nearby area, he said. The official said the report of an attack on a wild boar could not be proved and no carcass of a boar could be found. However, the Peerumade police said that people in the area had complained of recovering the carcasses of a dog and a wild boar from the area last week. The police are keeping a watch in the area, they said. -> http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/kerala/leopard-killed-bull-says-ptr/article6927440.ece |
