I don't think education is the problem, the problem is rather wishful thinking. Many fundies simply think everyone is as dumb as them and that people who don't agree with them must willfully suppress the truth due to their desire to sin. |

"Fundie" is an abbreviation for "fundamentalist". Christian fundamentalists are usually (but not always) protestants who put a very high merit on biblical literalism and biblical inerracy. They developed in the 18th or 19th century (not sure) as a response to the enlightenment and the secularization of the society which increased the number of non-Christians and made Christians overall more liberal. |

Why don't you take a look at us, Orthodox? Yes. I have noticed this about fundamentalists. Theytend to believe that whoever disagrees with them is the opposite extreme from what they are. And while in reality both extremes os a situation are bad, fundamentalists tend to think that one extreme is good while the other is bad. Edited by Thalassophoneus, Apr 30 2016, 07:50 PM.

Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians typically value their tradition a lot and they have a long tradition with theology which interprets a lot in the Bible allegorically. Though I admit that conservative Catholics/Orthodox Christians can sometimes be very similar to classical fundies. |

I have the sense that in general the Orthodox church is more unprogressive than the other two. In Greece we kinda have a problem with tradition. We tend to believe taht we are direct ancestors of the ancient Greeks or that we are Byzantines and Istanbul belongs necessarily to us. Many middle class Greeks, known as "Neo-Ellines" have this "tradition-religion" issue and they tend to believe that the Turks still want to eliminate us. Some even support the existence of a supposed endless conspiracy that aims the obliteration of the Greek civilisation, even though the modern nation of Greece isn't really the best example for a nation. |

I'm sure (or I at least hope) that you have no Jack Chick equivalent… The extreme nationalism seems to be a problem of Southeast Europe in general. It's similar to how Albanians go nuts about being the descendants of Illyrians or Serbs being so incomprehensibly obsessed with Kosovo. I believe the unimaginably extreme nationalism on the Balkans could come on my "trigger list" as well. |

Here we do not have such things as "famous apologists bashing the athesists". Here we all get the advice of local bishops and such and when it comes to atheism it is not dven to be debated cause "these are Satan's stuff" or "just stop whinning, atheists". |

Let's see... " a jaguar would be able to beat nile croc because they kill crocs and have the biggest bite force "- I hear this more on the stupid youtube comments of my country. " lion kills elephant easily" " my dog could kill insert giant sized animal here" " humans suck, i hate humans " " dirty hyenas, dont kill before they eat " " felines better then canines because grappling" " canines are better then felines because bite force" " anaconda/python could kill insert 1 million times heavier animal here" " I always favour crocodiles over caimans/gators" There are more, but Im getting annoyed just by reading my own post. I forgot some of the main ones: " jaguar hunts black caiman easily " " - insert stupid thing- I know that because im scientist and I study, theres evidence" " -insert every extant animal- would beat croc on land because crocs are slow" " - insert stupid animal beat animal affirmation- it's truth, theres video! - insert video of the animal that is said to beat the other animal, with the other animal being a much smaller related animal/baby" " leopards are as strong as tigers " " leopard beat hyena easily " EDIT: Forgot two very important ones: " if it was a tiger, that croc would be dead " - every tiger fanboy on every lion and crocodile video " lion beats tiger because mane " Edited by SETA222, Jan 25 2017, 06:55 AM.
