Was Tilikum provoked in anyway?? Did his trainer do anything to make herself a target? I don't know much about the story. |

Wikipedia says: "On February 24, 2010, Tilikum killed Dawn Brancheau, a 40-year-old trainer.[23][24] Brancheau was killed following a Dine with Shamu show. The veteran trainer was rubbing Tilikum as part of a post-show routine when the orca grabbed her by her ponytail or left arm, according to differing eye-witness reports, and pulled her into the water.[25][26][27] Brancheau's autopsy indicated death by drowning and blunt force trauma.[28]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilikum_(orca)#Third_death |

I also want to fight these stuff, but you want do so by cursing the human species OR quiting the Forum. I can see that you are emotionally loaded. The dominant theory is that he pulled her from her ponytail. It is possible that he wanted to play her, and maybe tease her as I doubt that he was unaware that she is a living being. Of course he is like 100 times her mass so it was very easy for him to kill her. Edited by Thalassophoneus, Jan 7 2017, 09:25 AM.

Actually, that's childish and dramatic because you know your post is ridiculous. I was pointing that if you hate humans, then you would hate yourself and if you hate them because they impact wildlife then the only way for you to not do that is A: not exist ( die ) B: The old Ausar's post.
Seriously? Do you think this forum is only about the animal matchups? Reccomend checking the forum again. About the global warming and animal poaching, I have no idea on how this is relevant to what we are talking about and doesn't make the fact that you hate your own kind less ridiculous. |

I find it hypocritical that people always bring up the more "spectacular" and popular endangered mammals like tigers, pandas, orcas, rhinos, polar bears, etc., but turn a blind eye to the thousands of species of plants, insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds currently in danger of going extinct.

And was it play behavior or predatory/attack behavior? |

It could have been playing or a frustration of the moment. Although most people believe the extreme theory that it was the sudden expression of madness of decades in captivity. Edited by Thalassophoneus, Jan 7 2017, 09:57 AM.

I strongly doubt it was madness...while cetaceans like dolphins and orcas are smarter than many animals (right...?), I doubt it would be an act of madness. How long is the typical memory span of an orca? |

I don't know about memory. Whag I know is that pretty much all animals adapt to captivity even mentally. Keiko was left free so that "Free Willy" will come true, but he never joined any pod and he was found in Norway interacting with people. And then he died. |

Hmmm...I also doubt it was an act of predation as well. Perhaps it was extreme play? |

Most likely. Sounds like that story of the captive grizzly bear that was used for movies, he accidentally killedhis handler because he simply played to rough with him. That's a tragedy and I don't really blame the animal for it; but now whenever an animal kills someone out of predatory behavior or at least a "temper tantrum", that animal is dangerous and should be put down, it can't learn that it could get away with that sort of behaviour. |

There is a right way and a wrong way to express your care about endangered species and your desire to help, saying you have your own species is the wrong way. |
