Spectacled bears seem to be an underrated species of bear, to the point where people think a jaguar or even a puma would beat one 8.5 out of 10 times. Despite meat only making up 5% of their diet and their docile nature, they are very capable hunters, attacking 300 to 551 lb tapirs.![]() ![]() Male spectacled bears weigh between 120 to 340 lbs, making the tapir 4.5 to 1.6 times its weight. And that's assuming the bears are male, because females can be 60 to 180 lbs. Despite their looks they are an impressive bear, feat wise. |

Note those are small individual tapirs that are being targeted (unsuccessfully). I don't rate the spectacled bear any lower than any other bear, lbs for lbs, and at parity I'd give it an edge over cougars and jaguars. You know what's really underrated though? Tapirs. |
