This was an old thread on the old Carnivora. I thought I'd bring it back. So do you guys think that Megalodon would be able to survive in today's time? My opinion is, I don't think they would because there are many other ocean predators that would be competition for the Megalodon and I think humans would start to hunt it. Orca's IMO would be big competition because they both hunt large whales. |

No way would it survive, Humans would hunt it to extinction within twenty years. And pods of Orcas could be a severe problem. |

Agreed. Orca's and other large sharks. Plus lots of whales are endangered nowadays so it would be a problem to find food. |

in fact the question the question is strange because if it had dissapear it is because it can't adapt to the climat changement witch ultimately created our modern world. |

true.but it seems that it tooth were not found after 1.5 million. and I don't think that a 20m long shark could be hidden to us |

I believe Megalodon would still be alive but wouldn't be as big. If it were still alive. It would probably just grow to 30 to 40 feet long. |

not sure! with 12m long megalodon is still a big animal and it wil be(overfishing by our asiatic friends for it big fin) and since it would be not as big as the true megalodon it won"t be a danger to a orca's pod. in all way I think megalodon was condemn.it survived a long time but there is necessarily a end to all species. |

Maybe they just like deep down where we don't fish. This is just a theory by the way. I don't know for sure. In fact, I don't think anyone knows for sure. So we have to shoot out ideas! |

it would be a catastrophe to whales if meg was alive as their numbers have been significantly depleted by whaling 100 megs and bye bye whales |

I disagree, Meg would be killed by the Climate status and Humans before it gets a chance to make a signification impact on the whale population. Because of the current decline of large Whales, I don't think it would have enough prey either. |

^ Yes that's what I thought. The only reason Orca's are still alive is because they don't solely feed on other larger whales. However, Megalodon only fed on large whales which have a declining population in this time. |
