Over any hyena bar an equally sized one, which has the ability to kill the leopard. |

I'd say it has a chance to beat a Leopard, but you pit a male leopard against a female hyena, and it's over for the hyena. Hyena's are only tough when they're in a group. Leopard latches onto the hyena's face, and bites on its' carotid artery, and the hyena dies via suffocation. GAME OVER. Edited by TIKI, Apr 6 2013, 08:05 AM.

You do realise female spotted hyenas are larger than males. And to say "hyenas are only tough when they're in a group" is a very sweeping statement, for starters only spotted hyenas are group hunters, the others share the leopards solitary life, and the spotted hyena is powerful enough to dominate most other carnivorians in it's weight range, big cats and ursids not included.

Skip to 1:30. Hyena didn't want none after the pimp slap. LMAO, leopard stayed there eating the Zebra like a boss.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1D9NUvpxgw You sure about that? Even if you take their averages into the equation, the Leopard is the stronger all around animal. 4 claws and a mouth > 1 mouth. Female hyena: 98—141 lb Male Leopard: 66 to 200 lb Edited by TIKI, Apr 6 2013, 08:21 AM.

The average weight of female hyena differs with the region. It correlates with food availability. 160 lb female hyena aren't uncommon but those weighting beyond that are. Usually a big male leopard will be more inclined to defend its kills from hyena, driving one or more away. Young adult males and mature females are often documented giving way to a single hyena, male and female a like. |

Whilst the leopard might be more physically powerful, lets not forget that the hyena has the more powerful, damaging jaws. A well placed bite could cause massive damage to a leopard, lets not forget the hyenas habit of biting through bones and eviscerating things. EDIT: You know what, theirs a thread for this topic, lets take it there Edited by Full Throttle, Apr 6 2013, 08:23 AM.

Hyena's use their bone crunching jaws while feeding on dead animals. It's actually the back lining of their teeth that are the bonecrushers. I've yet to see a Hyena snap a leg off another animal while in full movement. It's alright. We don't have to discuss this topic any further. We should just post pics instead of debating this matter. From NatGeo's "Hyena Queen."![]() "Seeing any animal fight is quite a unique experience and sometimes a once in a life time sighting. That goes for the elusive brown hyena, we got lucky enough to see two males fight over territory one morning on safari. We were driving along and stopped to look at a spider when we heard these awe full and easy sounds of distress, we drove in after the sounds and found the blood stained hyenas tearing into one another with force and determination to kill the other one. They didn’t mind us too much and carried on fighting until one of them retreated to the safety of a fallen tree where he fended of his advisory." ![]() ![]() |
