Turkish (Syrian) brown bear

First of all, sorry for the double post, but I was trying to PM you to no avail, since I really respect your knowledge I wanted to ask your opinion on this picture I scanned from an old mexican encyclopedia, according to it is a mexican silver grizzly.

Where?
Not in your quote.
A different bear approached them closer than 3 meters away-nothing regarding size (other than big) was mentioned.

I think that bear looks young.
My mistake :P

Hi,
PMs are disabled for all non-staff members due to certain posters having historically used the pm system to send dog fighting videos to one another.

Any more info on that bear?
Probably from a zoo?

Very massive looking individual.

ShaggyGod has some good info on the now extinct Mexican grizzly. I'm getting everything I discuss below from there.

Here are a few pictures (black and white), credit for the images goes to Sarus:

Wikipedia has this picture of stuffed animals:

Their skulls have been described as 'small and wolflike'.

As the colors match well, I definitely wouldn't rule out that it is a Mexican grizzly in the photo you posted.

The only info on the pic I could find is that is was a zoo animal (no info on where but presumably a mexican one) and that it was taken by a mexican photographer whom I didn't find any info either.
Thanks for posting those pics, except for the one from wikipedia, all are new to me.
They do like similar don't they? the darker coloration of the limbs, the similar sized claws and of course the narrow snouts. Mexico used to have a world class biodiversity, even had the largest woodpecker, but just like PM here, a few people ruined it for everybody.
I have the impression that some of the extinct brown bears like the Atlas and the ones from the Great Plains had a very interesting biology, kinda like the Gobi bear and very different from those living in Alaska and islands.
How I do to get notified in the mail when somebody replies to my posts? And do you have some place where I can follow the stuff you post?
Thank you.

One thing I have noticed as I learn about bears is that many of the species seem to come in the same variety of colors, especially brown bears and American black bears. Both species have brown, white, black, some are grizzled or "blue."

Yes, it does seem that most likely the encyclopedia is correct.
Any info on date of the photograph?

I would be interested in knowing what their diets were like. Extant brown bears have huge variation in diet (you can see this forum's brown bear profile for information). Diet also changes dramatically by seasonal availability.

No info on the date of the pic. I just signed the petition. I meant like a facebook page or something. I just wanted to ask you some questions.
Thanks.

Yes, I definitely recommend liking the page.
Many of the pictures are very sad/sick, but most of the rest are great.
