Lions are just more emaciated than the tigers. If the tiger lived in Africa they would not seem so big and falsely powerful...

It simply depends on the individual, there are musculars lions and tigers like there are lean lions and tigers, now stop this childish fanboy debate please.

Lions have proportionately larger chests, while tigers have more distended stomachs. The upper limbs of the lion is lb for lb more robust, while it is the same with the lower limbs of the tiger. Tends to even out. When you compare similar sized specimens of near equal weight....you will find there is little, if any difference in robusticity.

But why would we do that when TIGERS ARE BIGGER?!

Er...they'd look MORE powerful, take away a Lion's mane and he isn't nearly as impressive.

Hippopotamus gorgops = 4.5 meters long
Chasmosaurus = 6 meters long

(Yes, I oversized Hippopotamus gorgops a bit in this scale, H. gorgops was actually only 4.3 meters long)
