What computer program do you guys use to make comparisons? MS Paint? Photoshop?
I use Photoshop, CS4 to be exact, I'm also trying to get the hang of Inkscape so I can make skeletals...

Any tips for using gimp to make comparisons?
Sorry for the late response.

You can use the wand (don't know whether it's actually called wand in the english version, but you ought to recognise it pretty easily) to select and delete the background. Make sure you activate the transparency if you want a transparent background
you can invert the selection and let it automatically crop the layer to it if you want. Then either just scale it to a certain lenght (the most easy way but prone to be unreliable), make a grid (there is a functionality in gimp, but it's just for scaling, so you cannot export it. in case you want to do that, make yourself one in inkscape) or use the measuring tool and calculate percentages if you want to scale to things like skull lenght or shoulder height.
There are many more things you can do of course, for example it is best to smoothen the rims if you use the background selection and so on. You might want to highlight or superiompose something, but you'll find it yourself, it all works very intuitively once you have worked in a bit.
Make sure to check the absolute size of the image afterwards, so you don't end up uploading oversized images.

export as *.png format for images with transparency, *.jpg without it, and if you want to save the whole project with layers and everything use the native *.xcf

here you haver some more detailed and advanced tutorials: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/

I have always wanted to see all members of the genus Canis, including some of the lesser portrayed like the Red wolf and some of the lesser known wolf subspecies. May be hard to find lateral shots though, so no worries.

Lycaon, if not members of Canis, perhaps a comparison between some of the major wolf subspecies. It would be cool to see then to scale. I am sure C. occidentalis, arctos, lupus, arabs, pallipes, communis, and baileyi would be readily available.

Pariah types, like Dingos, New Guinea Singing dogs, Carolina dogs, basenji may be cool as well. I have always wanted to see the Dingo compared to a New Guinea singing dog. I think it would highlight the latter's larger head.

(Combination of Elephant in Early Pliocene Mammalian Fauna from Galili,Somali Region,Ethiopia)

Among them Palaeoloxodon recki brumpti,Loxodonta cf. L.exoptata and Elephas cf. E.ekorensis recovery based on fragmentary fossils, speculate in proportion, the result may be unreliable.

Work in progress, if you find any pics it would help me out a bunch (goes for anyone)

I have been looking and while I found a great dingo picture, none suitable for the New Guinea Singing dogs.
However I did find a pic that really emphasized the large head of this species!

Yeah everyone! I have been reading the forums for a while but this is the first time I've actually posted anything. I have made a few comparisons but I have no idea how to get them on here. Could someone help me out please?

Lycaon, I will start looking around for some pictures when I have some time. Hopefully one of the zoos that has them will have a nice profile shot.

EDIT: Here is a decent profile of a NGSD

This specimen does not have as large a head as others though.

Here is a great website on pariah types, especially the Indian native dog.

What other primitive types do you want, or do you want pictures of the different members of Canis and their subspecies?
