Yes, I didn't formulate my post very clearly. The species is grey wolf, but the wolf which were called "wolf" colloquially in the very distant past was the Eurasian wolf. In fact, the Eurasian wolf is "THE wolf", Canis lupus lupus. So it's the type subspecies, although it was called wolf long before the Linnaean system. The only reason for that is that it's English, and The UK is in Europe, where this type lives. So if any wolf should represent the grey wolf, it's the Eurasian wolf - especially considering that it is actually grey in colour. But as you say, it's the species which is the grey wolf, so technically it applies to all Canis lupus, which makes the entry in the description odd - I suspect that it's an American type of wolf in the pictures of "grey wolf". |

Big Felines![]() Size chart featuring some of the largest felines of all time. From the largest to the smallest: Panthera leo atrox, Smilodon populator, Panthera tigris acutidens, Panthera leo spelaea and Panthera tigris altaica (modern siberian tiger). Is worth mentioning that the three first animals are very similar in size, and the definition and perception of "largest" between them varies from person to person. Separated drawings, here: [link] Vitor-Silva - deviantART |
