Neither of those dogs look particularly good examples of there breeds, but this comparison is great, my favorite breed, the EBT neck and neck with the body style of Ambull that I prefer, lean, mean, fast and functional.

Big Felines

Posted Image

Size chart featuring some of the largest felines of all time.

From the largest to the smallest:
Panthera leo atrox, Smilodon populator, Panthera tigris acutidens, Panthera leo spelaea and Panthera tigris altaica (modern siberian tiger).
Is worth mentioning that the three first animals are very similar in size, and the definition and perception of "largest" between them varies from person to person.

Separated drawings, here: [link]

Panthera tigris acutidens = Ngandong tiger?

And that elephant seal picture is badass!

A lioness and cougar. In addition to the size difference it's interesting to note the difference in proportions.

Hugely speculative depiction of a latest Triassic crocodylomorph from New Mexico, but I like the way it turned out.

@jingoferx: I think we should not try to establish a maximum size at now, it is just one specimen if tooth-based estimates are not reliable. That would be a plausible figure if they were, but would require them to scale linearly...
And the Livyatan reconstruction is far too bulky.

I don't want to say specimen can not grow larger than the holotype, but we should stick into estimates where we have a basis for. After all, we don't know if the 40 cm thing in the video wasn't just rounded up from 36 cm.
