Lion Coalition of 3 Lions - Panthera leo The lion (Panthera leo) is one of the four big cats in the genus Panthera, and a member of the family Felidae. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia with an endangered remnant population in Gir Forest National Park in India, having disappeared from North Africa and Southwest Asia in historic times. Until the late Pleistocene, about 10,000 years ago, the lion was the most widespread large land mammal after humans. They were found in most of Africa, across Eurasia from western Europe to India, and in the Americas from the Yukon to Peru. The lion is a vulnerable species, having seen a possibly irreversible population decline of thirty to fifty percent over the past two decades in its African range. The African lion is a very large cat, with males weighing between 330 and 550 pounds and females weighing between 260 and 400 pounds. It is 8 to 10 feet long, not including the tail. Its most famous feature is its mane, which only male lions have. The mane is a yellow color when the lion is young and darkens with age. Eventually, the mane will be dark brown. The body of the African lion is well suited for hunting. It is very muscular, with back legs designed for pouncing and front legs made for grabbing and knocking down prey. It also has very strong jaws that enable it to eat the large prey that it hunts. ![]() Black Rhinoceros - Diceros bicornis An adult Black Rhinoceros stands 140–170 cm (57.9–63 inches) high at the shoulder and is 3.3-3.6 m (10.8–11.8 feet) in length. An adult weighs from 800 to 1364 kg (1,760 to 3,000 lb), but sometimes grows up to 1818 kg (4,000 lb), The females are smaller than the males. Two horns on the skull are made of keratin with the larger front horn typically 50 cm long, exceptionally up to 140 cm. The longest known horn measured nearly 5 feet in length. Sometimes, a third smaller horn may develop. These horns are used for defense, intimidation, and digging up roots and breaking branches during feeding. Skin color depends more on local soil conditions and the rhinoceros' wallowing behavior than anything else, so many black rhinos are typically not truly black in color. The Black Rhino is much smaller than the White Rhino, and has a long, pointed, and prehensile upper lip, which it uses to grasp leaves and twigs when feeding. White Rhinoceros have square lips used for eating grass. The Black Rhinoceros can also be recognized from the White Rhinoceros by its smaller skull and ears. Black Rhinoceros also do not have a distinguishing shoulder hump like the White Rhinoceros. ![]() _______________________________________________________________________

Lions kill larger prey than tigers, everything in Africa is larger than in the open environment with more competition than the tigers closed environment with smaller prey. I never said an adult male white rhino was predated on, but subadults under age of 5 which are not small are on the menu. There are plenty of cases of Gaur killing tigers as noted by Dr Schaller, Sunquist, Rhino is far more dangerous. |

3 lions may not be enough to bring down a fully grown adult; however, I do know there is some mention in Pienaar(1969) of lion prides killing adults

Black Rhino doesn't give a sh*t about anything...they frickin charge if they so much as smell you. Or hear you...only three lions aren't enough to kill an adult. No way. A large pride, maybe, but definitely not only three lions. |

You are aware that Rhinos have very poor eyesight. During the day Rhinos really can't see well and I doubt during the night it'll be any better. Lions on the other hand have very good night vision and are very skilled nightime hunters, so what makes you think they'll lose during the night?

i do know that but that doesn't mean rhino would not be able to do anything first three lions will never try to hunt adult black rhino whether its night or not, second it doesn't mean rhino are blind at night, rhino can still smell feel and even see very less at night, and third its black rhino far more powerful than cape buffalo. |

Well Prides of 10 mostly containing Females have hunted and killed Elephants during the night, so I don't see what trouble 3 Male Lions would have against a Black Rhino Edited by Mammuthus, Sep 18 2016, 11:29 PM.

yes but that was not adult elephant, and again we are not talking about buffalo, three females lion have hard time killing bull cape buffaloes at night. and we are talking about here freaking black rhino which almost equally as strong as three 800kg bull cape buffaloes combined. |

I highly doubt a single Black Rhino is a strong as 3 800 kg Cape Buffalos. The Rhino would only weigh the equivalent of 2, possibly less. Edited by Mammuthus, Sep 18 2016, 11:51 PM.

i think 3 big bull cape buffalo will weight 2400 kg,and yes black rhino will be almost same strong as 3 cape buffalo combined. that's not myth it true cape buffalo average weights 660 kg while the largest can reach upto 800 kg but its quite uncomman so you do the math, black rhino is far more robust and more agile more strong legs more protection. ![]() you can see above a white rhino(not adult) still is far more robust than bull big cape buffalo and it looks like that cape buffalo couldn't even push that rhino one bit. you can see fight between white rhino or black rhino vs cape buffalo, that rhino almost killed or killed cape buffalo and others don't even try to defend buffalo and attack rhino. between the rhino looks to be not an adult. |

Since when where Rhinos more robust than Cape Buffalos? Not to sure if Rhinos are more agile than Cape Buffalo either. Also, the only accounts of Rhinos killing (or injuring) Cape Buffalo have all been caused by White Rhinos, I've nether heard of 1 incedent were a Black Rhino kills (or injures) a Cape Buffalo Edited by Mammuthus, Sep 19 2016, 01:40 AM.

You two know that both white and black rhinos are a good deal larger than african buffalo right? Black rhinoceros weight from 800 to 1364 kg (1,760 to 3,000 lb), but very rarely sometimes grows up to 1818 kg (4,000 lb), a african buffalo weights 1300 pounds on average, male white rhinoceros average 2,300 kg (5,100 lb) so Imagine how much white rhinoceros weight in max sizes? |
