Accoding with Guy Blame the biggest leopards come from north iran. Indeed From Kruger or Kzn or aberdares or Tanzania come very big leopards close north iran subspecies. There are recent research from central africa. Skull measuramens are very good data for estimate the size of leopards, for the problem of the content of stomach of leopards(T.Dickerson) Greetings all |

Hi M.E. it's a study in congo "Panthera.org": Leopard prey choice in the Congo Basin rainforest suggests exploitative competition with human bushmeat hunters http://www.panthera.org/sites/default/files/Henschel_et_al_2011_Leopard_competition_with_bushmeat_hunters_JZO.PDF I hope that starting from this study will be out of other material not yet published I think big males we see in hunting records pics are 65 - 75 kilos like that male when they are small (35 - 50 kilos) are so cause they are females or subadult or small subpecies(Zambia, Namibia etc.) Only one or max two males i seen pheraps 85 kilos in all internet acconuts of hunting site Just my opinion, but this explains, however, that most of the weight of the leopard is concentrated in the head neck and shoulders. In fact the comparison between man and leopard is impractical watching this type of photo. In any case, just think that a dead leopard of 85 kilograms could hardly be raised, not with that facility. They wear them, but they do not lift them from the ground. And i don't chose these shots because there are huge specimens , but just because i find they had a big head in comparison to their body , they are not really big specimen btw . ps : Yes , i saw this study too , it is great. So does anybody have information on the size of Amur Leopards before they were hunted to such a small population ? Do they have to much competition with Tigers to be HUGE ? |

In recent studies made in Russia, males are 32 - 48 kg. the average is 40 kg. I don't know where it comes from but we have 37.2 - 89.8 kilograms for males in old books and resources. so the average was maybe 63.5 kg. If it is correct it was like Northern Persian, Indian and Central African/South African males... |
