Just 14 days to go. I got my money on Germany winning the tournament, with Spain finishing as runner-up. Although it would be awesome if Spain can go on and make history (again) by winning a 3rd tournament in a row. What do you guys predict? |

I haven't paid attention for the past two years, and I know the Spanish team are older than the Germans but I still wouldn't expect Germany to be able to beat them. In those past two tournaments Spain dominated Germany (being the country to eliminate them in both). In 2010 Germany relied very heavily on counterattacking to make goals, something I think Spain was especially good at avoiding. After all, they only conceded a single goal in that entire world cup. Germany is also likely to be more tired coming out of the group stage-they've got the Netherlands (WC runner's up) and Portugal as contenders (vs Italy and Croatia as Spain's two biggest threats). |

My Predictions on the Group Stage and Knockout Stages: Group A 1. Russia 2. Czech 3. Greece 4. Poland Group B 1. Germany 2. Portugal 3. Netherlands 4. Denmark Group C 1. Spain 2. Italy 3. Croatia 4. Ireland Group D 1. England 2. France 3. Sweden 4. Ukraine Quarter Finals Russia vs Portugal 0-1 Spain vs France 3-1 Germany vs Czech 3-0 England vs Italy 1-0 Semi Finals Portugal - Spain 0-2 Germany - England 2-1 Final Spain - Germany 1-1 → Germany wins on penalties Dominated? Hardly, Spain beat them 1-0 on both occasions. Spain and Germany are the two best teams in Europe, however this year I'm expecting Germany to win. As long as they can keep the score even, the Germans always win in penalties. Edited by Vodmeister, May 27 2012, 04:49 PM.

A win is still a win. Whether it be by 1 goal, or 5 goals. What really matters, in the case of Spain vs. Germany games, is the manner in which Spain beats them. They toy around with Germany, and the German look like a bunch of highschool kids chasing the ball. This was especially evident in the world cup semi-final. That is called domination. |

objection. i strongly disagree with you here. in my opinion, Germany and Netherlands will be the two going in the next round. if you think about it, why should Portugal beat Netherlands? yes Portugal has Crisiano Ronaldo, he scores very often and makes good freekicks, but he rarely if ever helps in the defense and is known to break down in important games. Portugal is overrated. besides Ronaldo, they are a average team for the most part. Netherlands on the other hand has many top-elite players, like Robben, Sneijder, van Persie, Huntelaar and many more. i am not even sure whether Germany or Netherlands will take the first place in the group stage. these two are equal, Portugal falls way back in comparison. my opinion. |

Well Portugal have a good record against Holland - beat them both in Euro 2004 + WC 2006. And Portugal trashed Spain in a friendly recently 4-0 back in November...yes, both teams had their full squads playing. Portugal can beat any team on a good day. They will make Germany work hard for a win (which Germany will get), but they are more than capable of beating the Dutch. I also fancy Portugal to finish 2nd in gr.B. |

Portugal is certainly not overrated. If anything, they are underrated while Holland is overrated. If Portugal had the easy route to the Word Cup Final that the Dutch had, they would've made all the way too. Holland's only challenge was Brazil and they were never as good as people made them out to be to begin with. As the post above has pointed out, Portugal has a very good historical record against Netherlands. They beat them in Euro 2004 and again in World Cup 2006. So what makes you think this year will be so much different? Portugal is still every bit as strong as it was back then. Likewise, unlike what you said, the Portugal team is far more than just Ronaldo. Eduardo is easily one of the best keepers in the world, on the same level as Casillas. Did you watch his stint during the 2010 W.C.? He made some ridiculous saves and only conceded one goal, which was offside anyway. Portugal's main squad is based from the four big Portuguese teams - Porto, Benfica, Braga and Sporting. The Portuguese league is the fifth best in Europe right now; Hell, their teams dominated they were the entire UEFA Cup last year. Almost all players in that league are home-country based. That means that you can easily put together a strong team with the squad they have available to them alone. Portugal has Eduardo in net; Bruno Alves, Pepe, Fábio Coentrão, and Ricardo Costa in defence. Mounthino, Meireles, Nani, and Hugo Viana in mid-field; and Christiano Ronaldo (captain) and Hugo Almeida in attack. They have a very good team; not a lot of stars, but a solid team overall. Watch Portugal humiliate Spain 4-0. I know it was a friendly, but still, both teams had their A-squad on the pitch. Portugal will certainly beat Holland imo. Yeah and considering that Holland has been recently struggling in their friendly matches - losing to Germany, Bayern Munich, and Bulgaria (!). If Bulgaria can beat their A-squad, Portugal certainly can. And I mean no disrespect to Bulgaria. We usually play well when facing a strong opponent. But for some reason the air in our tires deflate against weaker opponents. But we can beat the Dutch, we have a good record against them. |

There are 4 teams that realistically can win this tournement,on on their A Game,in this order.....Spain,France,Holland,Germany. England will not even make it out of their group after being thumped by France and overpowered by Sweden. My money is on France, unbeaten in their last 21 matchs, finally playing as a team, winners of this tournement in 1984,2000. Of course if Spain play their A Game, then they are the winners, but Sport is not always so predictable. |

Russia is winning that group. Poland will probably finish 2nd place due to home advantage. Greece (like their last 2 major tournaments) will be shit and eliminated quickly. |
