Does anyone have any pics of big Persian males? Camp Pan makes a big kill : ![]() The Camp Pan Male took a break from his usual routine of stealing other leopards’ kills this week and caught a female kudu! A big kill for a leopard, the kudu carcass was too heavy to hoist in a tree so he fed on it form the ground for a couple of days, lucky to have not been discovered by hyenas. Here, he lies uncomfortably full after finishing the last bits. http://blog.londolozi.com/2012/09/the-week-in-pictures-53/ |

Here are some wild male leopards from Iran, they appear quite stocky and thick limbed. Keep in mind there aren't a whole lot of photographs of wild Persian leopards unlike some other regions like South Africa from where we have hundreds of photographs of male leopards to choose from. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The last photograph is unfortunately of poor quality but it nonetheless shows a leopard that is exceedingly stocky and deep chested. Limited data on weight relative to body length and measurements like chest girth also suggest a very stocky build for these leopards. Not to mention very impressive skull measurements. An impressive leopard captured by camera trap in Turkmenistan.

Thanks Kurtz, some very massive individuals there both overall and in proportions. Also interesting to see their habitat, very barren-looking and in some cases snowy. |

Both Camp Pan and Tugwaan have been getting it on recentley : Camp Pan Mates with Nottens I had last seen the Camp Pan Male mate with the Nottens female in mating in March 2010 and it was an absolute pleasure to see the pair together again last week. Spending over three days together, these two leopards provided guests and rangers with some fantastic opportunities for photography and filming as they mated consistently every 6 minutes or so. Enjoy a sample of what we experienced when we encountered them out on drive. http://blog.londolozi.com/2012/10/camp-pan-mates-with-nottens/ ............. Tugwaan Male mates with ‘Unknown Female’ The other day the Londolozi trackers managed to track down a pair of mating leopards. Mating leopards are always wonderful to watch…emotional, passionate, loving, lustful, physical, fluid and ever so photogenic. The male involved was the incredibly dominant and successful Tugwaan Male a.k.a Shorty. This male has been patrolling the south and east of Londolozi for many years. The last time I wrote about him so after we watched him ‘lose’ a fight with his arch enemy; the Camp Pan Male. This loss however does not appear to have set him back too badly. He was after all, found mounting yet another female! ![]() The Tugwaan Male is one of Londolozi’s most impressive males. The female however, was not so well known. In fact I don’t recall her having been seen before at Londolozi. She is beautiful and petite, showcasing a very clear 3:3 spot pattern. After spending an afternoon watching this courting couple I turned to the powerful tool of technology to find out who she was. Remember that just a few days ago I had watched an unknown male leopard raid a fish eagle nest of it’s chicks. In that instance I had used the internet in an attempt find out an ID and history. Likewise for this little girl! ![]() There was great excitement at Londolozi with the arrival of a new female on the block As of yet we have had no answers as to who this little girl is. We hope that by posting this piece someone out there reading this may be able to identify her, or at least have an idea of where she comes from! It is fun, however, to see an ‘unknown’ leopard, especially mating with Londolozi’s most dominant males! My guess is that she comes from the deep southern regions of the Sabi Sands! If anyone knows please feel free to post a name or area in the comments section below! ![]() Not my best photograph by any imagination – it does however show the right hand side 3-spots. Does anyone have an idea as to who she is? Written, filmed and photographed by Adam Bannister http://blog.londolozi.com/2012/09/tugwaan-male-mates-with-unknown-female/ |
