Hi Jontsu, Kenya definitely produces its share of impressive leopards. The Rhino Ridge male you posted appears to be a well observed/photographed individual (judging by the coat pattern) from the Masai Mara. Some other males from the Mara also appear quite impressive, they're probably the same size as those from Kruger but have a huskier look to them with broader looking heads. In the book "Marsh Lions" by Jonathan Scott there's a picture of a big male known as the "wall eyed male" who looked real stocky and broad headed. From what I have read there is actually a lot of variation in the moprhology of leopards in East Africa due to the region's varying environments and elevation. Generally, three variants seem to have been recognized, the small and light coloured desert leopard, the intermediate bush leopard, and the large dark coloured forest leopard. I guess the Masai Mara leopards would fit into the bush leopard category.

Here's a great example of an East African forest leopard from the Aberdare mountains. Massive head on this guy, this region is renowned for its very big leopards. Also a beautiful coat.

From the Masai Mara an interesting interaction between a male leopard and lioness. It's interesting how the lioness doesn't seem to show any aggression towards the leopard and simply takes the free meal. The leopard is pretty good sized IMO.

Impressive looking lioness as well.
I actually think a male leopard that size, is a threat to a single lioness if she tries to kill him, and both knows it. She can't afford to take the risk of serious injury. Thanks for posting :)

Kurtz, yes, this pic is really impressive, we can see that leopards have got very huge neck and also a jaguar-head for big specimens or some subspecies.

Again Menzi male leopard remember the monster leopard i posted mating @ Phinda Zululand(south Africa).

@ KwaZulu-Natal: "Later in the evening, the Menzi Male Leopard was resting in the dark of night. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that large of a leopard. He’s massive, unwavering, and a stud if I do say so myself. Under red light (so as not to blind the animals) he looked like the man of land."

I know a few years back when Menzi was weighed he was 75 kg (165pounds).
Maybe he has grown, because he looks bigger then that

Marc, I think 75kg is pretty big for a South African leopard and a male of this size would appear very impressive, 80kg is probably max for this region IMO. BTW I think it's really cool that you've been to all these different parts of Africa, I hope to do that at some point in the future.

Some pictures of Sri Lankan leopards.

Most of the mature males from Yala NP appear quite battle hardened with their scars.

totally agree with chui a male leopard of 65 kilo may appear so, close human:

I think we think too much to human weight when we talk about leopards, this is deceptive for more than a reason.

It's very likely than there are not african- indian-srilankan-leopards over 75-80 kilograms in the pics of this topic, and may be only a couple of leopards in @ 80 kilos in entire topic.
Onterwise it's very likely there are not leopards less than 60 kilos on this topic.

Hey Kurtz I agree that Menzi is a very impressive male but I'm not sure i see him as being the most impressive leopard we've seen. I think there's quite a few other males photographed who are just as impressive or more so, I think Cam Pan looks more impressive honestly. This is all subjective of course and I'm of course only talking about build as none of us can accurately gauge size from the pictures alone.

Yes Chui, this is only my personal opinion on menzi.
But at least Menzi has one of the most impressive head-mouth-sagittal crest, while Campan has sure more impressive forequartes, Marthly male(Tyson) most impressive neck -forearms.

As for the weight a personal mail of Tristan Dickerson answer me:
"Hi ......
Boz has been missing for a few months now. He went missing that same time as a female went missing within his territory therefore we assume they were poached together possible on a poisoned bait. We have lots of measurement data on leopard we have caught but we are reluctant to share this data until we have published a peer review paper. Is there anything specific you want to know. We did not weight Menzi when we caught him but he will be around 75-80kg."

Tristan Dickerson told me even that the biggest male he wighed was Frodo @ 75 kilograms.
This confirm your reconstruction on leopard's weight in south africa.

Chui again with some amazing pics..Some of them look huge!!

Those Sri Lanka leopards to me look so badass!!

And do you guys also notice that the indian, sri lanka leopards have a total different backend structure. Very rounded in the back. Same as a jaguar.

The info the Londolozi rangers give for there big leopards are Camp pan 85-90 kg / Tyson 80-85 kg/ Shorty 75-80 kg.
I spoke a few guys from these area wich know these leopards well seen them on a weekly, daily basis.
