![]() Tyson male leopard with Carl Walker at Phinda Game Reserve, Zululand South Africa, before Luke Hunter and Guy Balme start theri research in same area: "Before I conclude the final saga it is necessary to mention the other male involved. Tyson and I had a long relationship dating back six or seven years. He was one the largest males I had seen in the area for a long time. I was so surprised on our first encounter in that he was so relaxed. Yet before this reserve changed its status to what is now they had hunted in the area and a leopard tom was a prize trophy. One of the local neighboring farmers told of a leopard experience he had encountered on his property. He was about to drive though a dry sandy river bed that crossed the road when he saw a leopard lying down smack in the middle of it. After enjoying the experience he decided to edge closer to see whether it would get up and walk away. He claims to have driven up to two meters away from it before it calmly got up, stretched and walked off. I still wonder if it had not been Tyson as his territory covered this particular farmers property." Notice the shoulders the neck of this 71 kilograms male leopard (160 pounds) in comparison to a big man like Carl Walker Edited by Kurtz, Jul 10 2013, 10:10 PM.

Nice picture, it's good to see how big is already a 70kg leopard, in comparison with a man, so a 80kg leopard,or even more would be a monster. |

![]() The Kaxane or Kashane male leopard is one we don’t ususally see. His territory falls to the West of our property, and with other big males like the Camp Pan and Marthly males forming a territorial wall in Londolozi, he is not often seen sticking his neck out on this side. Recently however, in the western grasslands, ranger Mark Nisbet and tracker Like Gumede were slowly making their way through the chilly early morning mist when a dark shape emerged out of the gloom ahead of them, confidently striding down the road. The male leopard usually encountered in those areas is the Makhotini male, yet the leopard they saw before him was certainly not him. After some consultation they realised that it was infact the Kashane male they had found, moving around on the very fringes of his territory. ![]() This male is certainly one of the most striking I have ever seen; his almost aquamarine eyes make him unmistakeable. It may be pure chance that he was in the area, but the fact that he was scent-marking repeatedly as he moved through the grasslands may suggest that he is looking to push East. The Kashane male has clashed with the Makhotini male before, but it remains to be seen if he will become a more frequent visitor to Londolozi. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTTGBGVABGs&feature=player_embedded http://blog.londolozi.com/2013/07/keshane-male/ |
