Here is the skin of the biggest leopard documented from Kenya I'm aware of. Its skull is recorded in Rowland Wards as 18.8" (277mm long and 200mm wide), the biggest out of many huge skulls taken in Kenya and the weight was reported as 212lb. The skull measurements which are taken by a third party and thus have some credibility and the photograph of the immense skin support the impressive weight. The skin is clearly huge and its breadth indicates a stocky build. As this leopard was taken in 1964, before Peter TurnBull-Kemp published his book in 1967 it is probably one of the seven records of 200lb+ leopards he writes of as being reliable. 212 Kenyan Leopard

For comparison the skin of a big leopard taken in Zimbabwe by a client of the professional hunter, Wayne Grant. Though no weight is provided for this leopard, Grant describes him as being a 'supercat' and as being one of the truly big ones. Judging by what Grant has written on the size of leopards in his book, "Into the Thorns", I'd say this was probably a good ~170lb leopard. He used the term supercat for particularly large males of over 160lbs.

There is no doubt some very massive leopards have been recorded in the rift valley forests of East Africa. This region along with the pristine forests of the Congo Basin and northern Iran probably produces the biggest leopards in the world. Fortunately, not all pictures of leopards from the area are of dead animals. Looking at some live specimen you can really appreciate how impressive they are.

Some more pictures of that big orange male from the Aberdare forest.

Another male from the Aberdares, again the head is very broad and jaguar like.

Another big male from Central Kenya. Also note the more lush green environments compared to the drier bush of Southern Africa.

Anderson male leopard.

Being told that he is bigger than Tingana,

Kurtz....This is a son of the late Emsgwen male.
I think in the top 5 of the Sabi Sands right now...What you think?

Posted Image
When we first saw his tracks we were unsure whether it was a young female lion or a male leopard, a big male leopard
