ImperialDino Why do you feel the need to take your insecurity's out on leopards? Some leopards will flee from brown hyenas, some will stand there ground and chase it off. Does it really matter? A leopard could kill a brown hyena in a heartbeat anyway.
Certainly not.
The people - who were zoologists - who wrote 'Cry of the Kalahari' and observed such animals on daily basis for years on end said a Brown Hyaena could likely withstand a Leopard's attacks and give it a good fight with their bone-crushing jaws.
Similarly in another paper on Leopard diet it was stated adult Brown Hyaenas had sufficient weaponary to minimise predation, with the account cited of predation being only a 6-month old cub.

Lapalala Wilderness : Leopard camera traps and research
"Brown hyenas are no match for a leopard in terms of strength, size or fighting capabilities. "
http://www.lapalala.com/reserve_management.php?id=20

3 zoologists - 2 of them with years in the Kalahari under their belt -vs. 1 person updating a news site - not even the person doing the research - with an unobjective statement.

So you think a brown hyena is comparable in strength to a leopard?

So you think a brown hyena is comparable in strength to a leopard?
Well, at average weights most Leopard subspecies would be larger, so probably not.
But 'strength' is a very general term, I'd certainly imagine a Leopard having more powerful hindquarters, but not shoulders, neck or head.

Yeah I'd back the one person, whose statement in no way contradicts anything posted by others.

Any view expressed by a researcher not supported by definitive evidence is 'unobjective', so if you have an issue witrh that - stop posting subjective views yourself, and then criticising alternate subjective views. Its simply a case of you being inconsistent and biased again.

"Brown hyenas are no match for a leopard in terms of strength, size or fighting capabilities. "

Leopards are larger (size), thus stronger (strength), and based on evidence have superior fighting abilities.

It does. It states a brown hyaena being no match for a Leopard, other sources disagree.

The paper on Leopard diet stating hyaenas had sufficient weaponary to minimise predation to incidents like the 6-month old cub, was backed by a source and was in the acaedemic lit.
The perhaps 'lesser' view of Owens and Owens was decided from their research and observations of brown hyaenas / leopards and was in their book on the Kalahari.

Both are more objective than someone who just updates a news site.

Find someone in a similar position who disagrees!

What evidence?

This is what it states :

"Brown hyenas are no match for a leopard in terms of strength, size or fighting capabilities. "

It does not contradict any other sources. Nor can you apply an inconsistent application of the term subjective, as you yourself are using subjective views.

If you don't agree with the fighting capability, show us some Brown Hyenas fights in the cape Leopard v Brown Hyena thread please.
