I don't agree, while they are some impressive males in south africa, they look like smaller and less impressive on average than their persian and west tropical african counterparts: Skull size

I agree with maneater. I think Sabi Sands holds some huge males, average bigger than the norm of a Savanna leopard. Due to good reservation and the biggest males not being shot. But I think the biggest males come from the Jungle. Congo, Kenia, Ethiopia. And I think the biggest subspecies is the PErsian, or anatolian leopard but there are so few of these. Sri Lanka holds some big males either but not that big. I really believe that the male leopards shown of the Mirrors in Gabon are 90 or 100kg + leopards. |

Equatorial africans and persians seems to be the top level of the leopard specie. Indian leopards are not larger than east/south african ones, just they have got freaks like it could have in sri lankan/savana african population. (for example the "100kg"(not verified) ivan sri lanka leopard) Marc: I even think that if the scale of the mirror of chui, with the gabonese leopard, is good, the leopard is above 100kg for sure.

Another huge male leopard from the mountains of Ethiopia. Amazing colour, too bad that the idiot shot him. Also, there are no data about his size and weight. https://www.facebook.com/268871353537/photos/a.268926828537.140478.268871353537/10153892390963538/?type=1&theater |

Not okay for this topic, but still a nice comparison to the other males and compared to human A NEW COLLAR FOR .NKOSI.. This morning Team AfriCat was able to successfully provide Nkosi - one of our resident male leopards in the 20 000 ha Okonjima Nature Reserve - with a brand new VHF - collar. His previous collar started to cause difficulties over the past few weeks - making it difficult for the guides and AfriCat’s research team to regularly keep on track with him. In order to avoid complete failure, Dr. David Roberts, who currently is spending the week at the AfriCat headquarters, darted Nkosi early this morning. Apart from a few minor scratch marks, Nkosi is in good health condition. With a weight of 61 kg is he the smallest among our big male leopards in the reserve. Usually occupying a territory in the eastern part of the reserve, Nkosi has previously been observed to expand his familiar ranges into the northern and eastern direction. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() here some more pictures wsich Kurtz posted. By then he was 70 kg A few more measurements for you on Nkozi: Shoulder height: 0.78m; body length: 0.98m; upper canine: 4.3 cm - lower canine: 3.5 cm http://carnivoraforum.com/topic/9572762/58/ Edited by 1977marc, Jan 31 2015, 01:18 AM.
