When he was young, it was abvious because of his size and fighting spirit this guy would rule.
Here he was almost killed by an older more experienced male

Well 65 kilos is not far from 70 kilos.
Anyway no quadrupedal would appear mediocre or small in @60+ kilos range if not quite fat.
Being a leopard and in wild is all pure muscles, altough average large male with a great muscle size.
Remember Tyson at Phinda(71 kilograms accurate weight) 6 kilograms heavier than Mafana, but he had the neck 4 cm larger than the widest point of the head.
Remember the exeptional M18 cape leopard trust at 58 kilos have great paws and shoulders altough less muscular and stocky than Mafana obviously.

Mafana certainly is one impressive leopard. Kurtz, any idea how old he was when weighed? If he weighed 65kg at age 3-5 years old he would easily weigh over 70kg at age 7-9 years. A 4 year old may be considered adult but he won't be full grown.

For example, here is Ivan from Yala back in 2009 when he was probably around 3 or 4 years old.

Here he is in 2014 probably around 8 or 9 years old. An absolute beast.

hi chui Mafana is 11 yrs old he is an old boy but he may have lost 2 kilos from his prime i remember years ago 67 kilos.
well Madiba is 76 kilograms at Okonjima the biggest official male new comer so if Madiba is still not 7 years old... may grow 2 kilos or more.
plus Madiba the new king of okonjima is 73 cm. high to whithers so quite stocky no emsagwen looking male.
ivan is truly among the gods of leopards ;)

I put this guy here before but here he comes again.

Mr Anderson male of the Sabi Sands.
I mentioned the Vin Diesel male of more than 90 kg officially weighted.
But this guy is taking up a lot of heat. Rangers, photographers form this region who know all these leopards from the Sabi Sands tell me that this guy is the biggest of them all. Or around the size of Vin Diesel male.

More than 1 man told me he is a lot bigger than Tingana, Tyson and Mvula.

But he is only 6 years old and still getting more bulky.

Here are his pictures. What I love about this boy is his eyes...he looks business. :D

Hey marc. I agree that is a very impressive looking leopard, very lion like and reminds me of Sri Lankan males. One thing to note is that the biggest males usually have smallish looking ears. Ted Bailey's measurements of leopards in Kruger showed that while mature adult male leopards were considerably larger and more massive than subadult males or females, there wasn't much of a difference in the size of the ears. It seems the ears don't grow in proportion to the size of the head and this can be a good indicator of large size. You really notice that with this male, more so than with any of the other big males from the Sabi Sands. Obviously not a hard and fast rule but a good indicator nonetheless. Keep us updated on this big boy marc, I wouldn't be surprised if he really turns out to be the biggest in the Sabi Sands!

The Menzi male from Phinda (Kurtz' favourite if I'm not mistaken ;) ), has probably the most impressive looking head I've seen on a South African leopard. The big Sabi Sands males like Mvula, Tingana, Tyson, or even Campan are impressive but none have a head which quite matches Menzi's IMO. Anderson comes closest I think and he's only 6 years old!
