Impressive leopard from an unknown location. Looks like a big Kenyan male to me, probably from the Nakuru or Aberdares area. In any case the neck on this guy looks incredibly massive.

Another big male from Kenya.

Anderson male compared to a cub, ow no a female leopard :o

This mega male leopard even looks heavier and more sturdy than most. The Anderson male patrols the Manyalethi riverbanks on the trail of the Nanga female.
Perspective illustrating size; although beyond the Nanga female and slightly out of focus, the Anderson male’s exceptional size becomes evident. The two spent just the one day mating before he left the property and returned into the heart of his expanding territory

A big male leopard shot in the Aberdare mountains of Kenya in 1968. The photo is from the book, "Shoot Straight and Stay Alive" by professional hunter Fred Bartlett. The skull of this leopard is listed in the Rowland Ward Records, measuring 273mm long and 178mm wide (17.75 inch total score). Bartlett said this was one of the biggest leopards he had seen in the mountain forests of Kenya with a heavily built body, he estimated its weight at 200 to 220lbs. Bartlett appears to be a reliable source and this was probably a genuine 180lb+ leopard. Any leopard with a skull measuring 17 inches or more should be considered huge.

As mentioned before, the leopards of the Rift Valley highland forests in East Africa were highly prized by trophy hunters. Of the leopard populations for which some appreciable data on weights has historically been recorded (ie. East/Southern Africa and India) these East African mountain leopards are IMO the most impressive. Apart from Iran where a few 200lb leopards have now been recorded most genuine 200lbers recorded historically have come from the highland forests of East Africa. The heaviest being a 212lb leopard with a 18.76 inch skull shot on Mt Kenya in 1964 which is probably the heaviest leopard reliably recorded in my opinion. PH Hamilton who carried out much research on leopards in Kenya gives a weight range for male highland forest leopards in the country as 60-95kg, the upper limit probably being derived from this specimen.

Kenya banned hunting in the late 1970s after which you would think these leopards would have thrived. In actuality, poaching became rampant in places like the Aberdares and Mt Kenya after the hunting ban and the leopards in these forests along with their prey became much scarcer. Thankfully the country has recently made great efforts to preserve its forests by putting up fences to better protect the wildlife and prevent conflict with people. The fence around the Aberdare mountain forests was completed in 2009 and now once again the leopard population there seems to be thriving. Getting rid of trophy hunting is great IMO but only if proper conservation measures can be put in place afterwards.

Great Chui, never seen something like this male in my life since i start follow leopards on internet in 2001. Thank you very much.

You're right Marc, the difference in size is incredible,Anderson is without a doubt the largest male leopard in the recent history of the Sabi Sands and I think pretty close to the maximum size that a southern african leopard can reach.90 kg? With that full belly he is pushing 100 ha ha.

More frequent views of the Anderson male from the north are occurring and his infamous size is noticeable. This monochrome depiction of the huge leopard emphasises his intent eyes, which are revealed through the dappled light falling on to his face. He means business. 1/640 at f/2.8; ISO 125.

again Mr. Anderson at night

Leopard

NAME: Wahu
GENDER: Male
AGE: (2016) 18 years
WEIGHT: (2013) 57.2Kg (2014) 57.2Kg (2015) 62.2Kg
ORIGIN: Omaruru
SIBLINGS: None
ARRIVED AT AFRICAT: 13 June 1998
REASON FOR CAPTIVITY: Cannot be set free for he was hand-raised and has now become too habituated. Tame leopards that are released back into the wild can be very dangerous, for they lose their natural fear of man.

Wahu is one of our leopards at AfriCat's Carnivore Care Centre.
WAHU has been at AfriCat since he was a week old. A farmer contacted AfriCat to pick up a cheetah cub that he had just caught on his farm. We rushed to its rescue only to find that it was actually a leopard cub. Wahoo’s eyes were still closed as he was just a few days old. Due to his young age he had to be hand-reared which has obviously habituated him and he is unsuitable for release. He currently lives in a 12-acre enclosure here at AfriCat and is regularly seen by school groups and guests. Wahu is one of AfriCat’s great ambassadors!

That Kenyan Leopard makes even Mr Anderson looks small... 100 plus kg Leopard.

Here a video of a stunning 80 kg plus Leopard for sure.
Piva male Leopard. Build like a jaguar

Hi marc in my opinion a truly 60 kilograms range leopard should appear much more like this Nkosi for sample( an accurate 61 kilogrmas male):

Should be 61 kilos male Nkosi with Electra 40 kilos female

Posted ImagePosted Image

or a bit less than 60 kilograms like this 57,5 kilograms male:

these pics seem the very young version of Wahu!

Kurtz, in my opinion Nkosi is not your typical 60kg male. A weight of around 60kg is average throughout much of Southern Africa for adult males and most males definitely do not appear as robust as this. I would argue Nkosi is a particularly robust and big headed male of average weight. In any case, I think it would be hard to categorize exactly what a 60kg male leopard will look like due to simple individual variation as well as regional variation. Some males will be longer and more slender while others will be thicker and more robust.

This male captured for research in the Tuli reserve in the south east corner of Botswana was weighed at 63kg. A fairly typical looking mature male from Southern Africa IMO.

Wahu it's a 18 years old captive leopard so he's a quite out of games for any physical comparison in my opinion, altough at his times.. While Nkosi is beastly probably a bit stockier than average at same weight. That male from Tuli Reserve it's fantastic seems even stronger than Nkosi. and very similar to srilankan males.
Is there some link on internet to follow that male leopard on tuli reserve? :D :D
