What can I say about it. I'm quite excited about it. I hope the Spanish athletes get over 20 medals, and I have big hopes they can get the olympic gold in footie, tennis, athletics kayak and basketball.

Join the convo if you feel the excitement too.

I did see the opening. Not nearly as majestic as in Pekin but it was an excellent choreography, A bit too ultra-patriotic for my taste too.

Green arrow: Rowan Atkinson. Red arrow: the NHS and siderurgic output scenes.

Got to admit it. I'm very pissed off.

The way the recently crowned Sub-21 European champions flushed qualifying options in two horrendous matches, one worse than the previous one.

Losing against Senegal in a preparatory match? Buaaah... it's nothing. Losing against Japan with one goal while they could have received half a dozen? It's worrying. Losing against the mighty... ¿¡¿HONDURAS?!? We have a problem of attitude here.

And the worst of the whole thing: still not a single medal yet...

I’m as patriotic as any Brit, and felt quite perplexed and slightly embarrassed by the opening ceremony, I understood its mission statement, just empathised for folk who weren’t British. There was probably some guy watching from Equatorial New Guinea left wondering what he’d witnessed. This event encapsulates the globe; the decision to proliferate Britain to that extent was a poor one. I thought they’d have gone down a Commonwealth unity route, why they quite brazenly opted for a few hours of self indulgent British smugness is mystifying. The one glimmer of light was we didn’t make a complete horrible mess of it. I was nervous we’d be made to look a laughing stock, envisioned they’d be choreography where some performer had to replicate the start of the 100 metres, he fires the gun to start the race and you here someone in the crowd fall to the ground, Camera pans in and all’s you see is the Queens head with a perfectly rounded bullet hole in it, smoke pouring out from the open wound. I’ve taken two weeks off work, so will miss very little of our home Games.

Does Shinburo still post? We had a debate on the old Carnivora board re Bolt versus Blake. Turns out he was right more than me. I maintain Bolt is the more gifted, but admit Blake is looking the more dangerous. On top form, Bolt wins both the sprinted events, on current form, Blake does. I believe all the media attention and lucrative endorsements have took away Bolt’s hunger to train. He doesn’t look quite the athlete of four years ago. The 100 and 200 metres are jaw droopingly exciting. Besides the Jamaicans, we have the ever present Americans. The men’s 100 & 200 are the most anticipated ever, can barely wait for the finals. Just hope and prey none off the top guys jump the gun like Bolt did at the World Champs.

The Games does open your eyes to all sorts of sports. I’ve been watching archery, judo, sailing etc sports I’d previously never thought of watching. Last night there was a show on about people who owned the strangest pets. On the read up it stated one guy had a lion and one guy a camel. But I started watching GB’s women volleyball duo play Canada’s duo. I was amazed how close I got to my TV, eyes squinting trying to manufacture a view of camel toe, then I realised that was on the other station lol (a wee joke for my adoring fans).

All in all really looking forward to the Games. I’m quite enjoying watching the lesser sports, but really waiting for the track and field to begin.
