i believe that was a dying or dead hornet. hornets just dying off since they usually are born around the same time. when it is time to die, the whole generation of a colony goes.

it couldn't be dead becuase it was obviously moving and what makes you say its dying?

that video was from Japan. reading some of the japanese comments, they mentioned that there was litters of weak and dying hornets. as you know, the japanese collect hornets so they can make energy drink out of them. much easier to collect them on the ground when dying instead of setting a honey trap like usual, plus there are a lot of them.

opportunistic predators come by and start muching down on the hornets if they come across them. biggest predator being mankind.

watch your dialogue a bit "japs" can be considered a derogatory term/ethnic slur in some cases. It doesn't look like it'd produce real results it might effect something in your body but not necessarily increase your running speed or stamina.

IMO Arthropod listings at parity

1. Emperor Scorpion: Honestly when I look at it I don't see a similar sized mantis overcome that bulk and armor or that vice-like grip, tarantulas could easily be handled by those claws as well as pede's

2. Praying Mantis: for reasons stated

3. Centipede: It's speed and length can get it through most contenders but it comes at a fault when it's long body is easily gripped and restrained by the pincers of an emperor or the raptorial forearms of a mantis

4. goliath birdeater: they depend so much on ambush and quickly wrapping their prey in arms but when your prey is well aware of you that doesn't work, the pede could easily corral and kill it, the scorpion would restrain it's front legs using it's pincers and wrestle it down, I've seen a praying mantis nearly kill a similar sized wolf spider in a dead lock only to surprisingly release the spider at the end (perhaps a loss of interest since the spider had fought back so fiercely or it was exhausted either way if the fight was to prolong the mantis would kill the spider for sure I would post the video but it might be deemed animal cruelty tho it's not a japanese/koren bug fight it's just a guy who threw a mantis and a wolf spider together)

The scorpion has all the advantages, they are hard, has very useful pincers and venom.

their weapons are useless against the robust centipedes, the worst they could do is hold the pede.

holding on can prevent the pede from attacking or using its length to a full advantage which is necessary for it's "corral and kill" technique and several stings could potentially do the pede in

epomis beetle larvae are specialized predators specifically evolved to tactically feast on amphibian prey this means they only thing they could really take down are frogs and salamanders and they use paralyzing venom along with a strong bite. It they tried that on say a snake a few times their size they'd get pummeled, they can't adapt to taking other prey they're way too specialized
