While it does not give an actual number, Holtz's database says they were around the size of a rhinoceros. He explains in another site that "the size of a rhinoceros" is 1-4 tons. http://www.geol.umd.edu/~tholtz/dinoappendix/HoltzappendixWinter2011.pdf http://www.geol.umd.edu/~tholtz/dinoappendix/appendix.html |

Despite being a classic, that's fight's kinda one-sided, megalosauroids are likely bone crushers, which aren't really suited for taking on robust animals that are multiple times larger than them, Iguanodon has a mass estimated at about 3 tonnes at average, Megalosaurus actually isn't even half that. |

Let's put it this way, it is highly unlikely they were similar in weight, even if Ekrixinatosaurus was 11m in lenght it would have been exceeded by Giganotosaurus for 1-3m, and that's not so sure (yes, some of the visual comparisons in this thread are exagerated, so is Hartmans Mahjungasaurus in terms of shortlegged- and slender-ness, but it all points out to this: an animal with an 85cm skull and 77cm femur is unlikely to be among the largest ever theropods, even if the skull was proportionally short. Abelisaurs have some morphological parallels to Carnosaurs, and a carnosaur with a proportionally short and robust skull that I know, Yangchuanosaurus, reached nearly 11m with an 1,1m skull). |

Looks like a weight mismatch then, unless their was something very special about Ekrixinatosaurus angd Giganotosaurus was an 'éasy beat'. |
