It is said that the lion suffering from mange was detached from its pride and quite hungry. Very impressive and dramatic. |

The Othawa lioness with newborn cubs shown catching a young buffalo and killing it alone by a suffocating grip on its nose and mouth. The young buffalo was chased out of a herd by the lioness which is why it was alone. Lions kill buffalo regularly but with the drought the buffalo are in a weakened state so the lions have found it easier than usual to bring down their prey. |

I've seen single lionesses kill buffalos and whole prides of 6 or 7 fail miserably. Probably highlights the fact that conclusions can't be drawn from any given recorded incident. |

One-on-one fights between a male lion and a cape buffalo: Cape buffalo defeats lion on video: Lion hardly able to take on cape buffalo: Accounts of cape buffalo killing lions: In this video, zoologists site multiple accounts of buffalo killing lions: Buffalo killed a lioness with a single lunge of his horns Buffalo gores lioness to death: Accounts of cape buffalo defeating or prevailing against multiple lions: Cape buffalo prevails against three lions: Cape buffalo defeats two lionesses at once: Cape buffalo defeats two male lions Cape buffalo defeats a male lion and a lioness at once Cape buffalo conquers a male lion and a lioness Cape buffalo fights off three lions and one gets horned Watch brave buffalo battling SEVEN bloodthirsty lions in merciless fight to the death: A fearless buffalo was surrounded by a pride of SEVEN lions in a dramatic life or death battle. Somehow the bull won the bloody battle against the hungry lions after an epic hour-long struggle in the Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa. On the hunt for a morning snack, the beasts clashed after the lions spotted the lone buffalo had strayed from its herd to have a drink from a nearby river. Sensing an opportunity for an easy kill, one of the more experienced predators pounced on the 1,000 pound buffalo in an attempt to wrestle it to the ground. With a pack of ravenous lions in tow, the two big beasts fought for almost an hour in a gory battle of endurance. ![]() But despite inflicting a number of gory wounds, the lioness was unable to bring the creature down, showing her inexperience in closing the kill. After standing its ground for almost an hour, the defiant buffalo managed to shrug off the aggressive lioness, rally support from its herd and make a break for it through the bushes. Hearing its moans from across the plains, the leader of the herd rushed to the buffalo's rescue causing the lions to retreat with their tails between their legs. The incredible scenes were caught on camera by photographer Bessie Flewwelling, 46, who was on safari with her husband, Peter Flewwelling, 65, a fisheries management advisor to developing countries. She said: "The attack came so fast, it was fascinating and riveting, but also horrific and scary as we were so close – less than 10 metres away from the scrap I believe." ![]() ![]() Source: Buffalo battles seven lions Most dramatic video yet as violent clash erupts between lions and buffalo: Buffalo kill more lions than any other creature and are even known to carry out pre-emptive strikes on cubs to stop them growing up to become enemies. Only a few prides have mastered the hunting techniques to bring down a swamp buffalo with its incredibly thick hide and horns that can rip a huge hole into the flanks of a lion. With only a small boat as a refuge from hyenas, crocodiles and hippos, the crew spent months capturing the exact moment a pride of six related lionesses homed in on a solitary buffalo. ![]() Sir David Attenborough’s flawless commentary and tense background music only add to the drama. One distracts the bull up front while her sisters attack from behind. Under the onslaught of raking claws, the buffalo twists and turns, sending up a spray of swamp water. As the scenes get ever more frantic, one lion manages to sink her teeth into the buffalo’s rear quarters, covering her face with blood. ![]() ![]() Source: Buffalo holds off lion pride Edited by Ursus 21, May 29 2018, 09:10 PM.
