^ You got to hand it to Lions, they certainly hunt very dangerous prey!

Don't know if this has been posted before, but the "Caught in the Act" series is very good:

LONE BUFFALO FIGHTS OFF DEADLY ATTACK FROM 6 LIONESSES

I was a witness to an incredible battle between a buffalo and the 6 lionesses that ambushed it at the Mazithi dam, south of Satara, Kruger National Park on Sunday. The buffalo continuously charged the lions, keeping them at bay, whilst they worked as a team, darting in from all directions, trying to disorientate the huge buffalo. The buffalo kept stopping in the middle of the frenzy of movement, almost to take stock of its precarious situation, being totally outnumbered but the lionesses just sat patiently and gave the buffalo the stare! It looked like a lion kill about to happen when the lions started leaping on to the buffalo’s back, but he kept swirling and charging, all the time edging towards the dense bush. Using the bush as cover, he ran through the convoy of vehicles and escaped into dense vegetation on the other side of the road.

Buffalo fights off three lionesses in Kenya safari attack

Posted Image

The moment a lone buffalo saw off three lions after he wandered into their territory has been caught on camera.

The incident took place in the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya while the lions were looking after their cubs.

The lionesses took the opportunity to attack after the bull strolled into their territory - but the animal fought back with a vengeance, sending the lions flying with his back legs.

The pictures were taken by Laurent Renaud and Dominique Haution, both teachers from France.

According to the Daily Mail, they said: "Lions and buffalos are always in conflict. The buffalos never tolerate the presence of the lions - the lionesses had several cubs that were hidden in the reeds. They didn't want to leave the place.

"When the third lioness left the reeds, the attitude of the lionesses changed. It was not a game. Was it in order to try to kill and eat it? It's difficult to say.

"It was a very big bull and for only three lionesses it was quite difficult to bring down this buffalo."

3 Lionesses Kill Bull. (look at all the cubs the buffalo feeds!)

"3 lionesses take down buffalo straggler in order to feed their 9 small cubs. Taken December 2017 in the Leaning Tree area of south Maasai Mara, Kenya during game drive with Salas Camp. Demonstrates prolonged lion strength."

Four lions kill three buffalo

That's quite amazing.

It also interests me how some buffalo choose to stand their ground and fight lions while others choose to run away.

How do you always manage to say what I want to say first?

Here are some photos.

Dave Salmoni said it was the work of a lone male lion

Looks like a healthy buffalo

Edit: Yes I am aware that lions mostly hut bulls in a group.

ApexBoy, just so you know, nearly all of the buffalo shown in your videos were not cape buffalo.

They were just smaller subspecies of African buffalo, like the Sudanese buffalo or the West African savannah buffalo.

This one was a cape buffalo, but I regret to inform you that multiple lions were involved in killing this buffalo.

I don't think that this specimen was an adult. It seems far too slim and gracile in build to be fully grown, and its boss isn't fully formed.

Nope, most of the lion kills were filmed in Eastern and Southern Africa, which doesn't have the smaller species of buffalo.

The lioness killed a full grown adult cow.

Anyway, more lion videos.

From this video, here are two males killing a buffalo.

Edit: Also, the male Lion mostly tackled the bull, and suffocated it by himself. Better quality of that video.

Also, this buffalo here:

Definitely not an adult specimen.

The boss has not completely thickened out and the body is not fully widened or grown, the shot above shows this.

Are we watching the same video?

There were multiple lionesses attacking the buffalo, and the other male lion helped take it down:
