Very cool bit of video.
Great display of male Lion aggression, classic Hyaena durability and interesting throughout.
Also- for an amatuer piece - good camerwork and clarity. The first safari video I've seen from Ngorongoro that doesn't sound like a hurricane! lol
Only downside was the 'narrating'...

Fantastic video, i love male lions.

i think he have a bad grip on the hyena, that's why she escape.

Yes the video would had been better without his narratation lol. I also think the male a had a bad grip on the hyena hence it got away, or then it was more determined to just chase all of them away.

Just goes to show that having functional limbs doesnt mean you can overpower your opponent completely, even with a significant weight advantage.

I'm actually surprised the hyena got away, considering the lion was using exactly the same attack method Ntchwaidumela used (grabbing the hyena by the back of the neck and lying on the ground).

did someone else notice, that in almost all lion-hyena videos, there are like one or two jackals lurking around in the background?

but a very nice video.

Amazing video! The same certainly cannot be said for the IQ of the man talking in the background. Lions do not like hyenas but that does not mean every time they encounter one they have to kill it. The male could have killed that hyena but for some reason let it go - he was probably more interested in the buff carcass.

Survived first initial male Lion attack & gave Lioness a surprise.

I'm fact it wasn't even killed outright!

Nobody is saying hyaenas are lion-proof nor made of adamantium, but they can survive a Lion attack intended to kill them and have done on multiple occasions.
But this is already in the 'Lion vs hyaenas' video / image gallery thread. :)

The play dead rather than fight behaviour of hyenas has saved them on other occassions too. Must be an evolutionary adaptation to help them survive alongside felines.

The Hyena appeared to be somewhat paralyzed after the initial male Lion attack & please elaborate on this 'play dead' theory of yours.

& I apologize Canidae as this is the most active I've been in a very long time & I really had no idea what was in the vid/pic gallery tbh.
