What a dumb announcer, how in the hell could a STRIPED HYENA kill a single Wolf in one bite? Let alone with ease, sure sure they're smaller than the big Northern Wolves, but if a Hyena can crush an Arabian Wolves skull then so could vice-versa. |

Striped hyenas usually dominate single wolves. |

So do Wolverines, and I have no doubt that a Striped Hyena could kill the smaller Southern and Asian Wolves, but this uneducated piece of shi* narrator acts as if a Hyena is a Tiger or something. |

narrator was certainly overly dramatic but i really liked that kind of view you could see their size very clearly, though those wolves must have been really small given that striped hyenas probably barely ever reaches over 40kilos

I Guess you have to remember it is pitch black, if it was in daylight im sure the wolves would of defended their kill much better. I mean AWDs wouldnt lets a single spotted hyena just come on at take there kill. |

How did you reach that conclusion?... Anyway, great footage. The next episode looks interesting, the Arabian Peninsula has an interesting predator guild but I never realised they were so sympatric in the Dhofar Mountains. The series itself is pretty good, shame there's only 3 episodes. |

I'll believe hyena> wolf when I hear of a striped hyena killing a russian wolf 1 on 1. Until then this isn't surprising actually. |

Why is the narrator dumb? A striped hyena could certainly kill an arabian wolf with a well placed bite. |

I actually think that a striped hyena can kill an arabian wolf with a well placed bite as well. |

A Striped Hyena can kill an Arabian Wolf, but the narrator makes it sound like it can just kill the Wolves by looking at it. |

The fact that a large Arab wolf pack wanted nothing to do with a striped hyena speaks volumes. |

Hyenas are great scavengers. AWDs wouldnt let that happen without a more determined defence. |

I would agree. Not only that, but I read somewhere recentley (think it was something by MacDonald) that the trenchant heel in some canids may not also be a prey-killing adaptation but a prey-consuming adaptation too. That the meat-slicing heel allows prey to be consumed quicker before other predators could try steal the kill, and also that such canids were crepulscular / diurnal hunters over nocturnal to further avoid hyaena klepotaparasitism with both A.W.D and Dholes. Overall, in it's greater geographical range I would say Canis Lupus as a species is higher in the predator heirachy and has less need for both physical and behavioural adaptations to kleptoparasitism, which isn't great for these smaller, less dominant subspecies. |
