Interesting video, the caracal don't succeed to pierce the scales of the monitor.

Sry for not responding earlier - I really like the video - different from some others it seems to show a monitor in an active state at high temperature. Unfortunately e do not see how the lizard actually freed itself, leading 221extra to speculte about the hole thing being staged/the escape caused by human intervention. Any thoughts on this?

I already commented on this video I don't believe this is staged otherwise I believe that they would have used a larger more formidable lizard to make the fight less one sided. Personally I think the lizard just managed to inflict a series of minor but painful wounds on the cat persuading it to search for smaller prey like mice or birds. At 0:18 you can see the lizard clawing at the cats neck and before the cat let go it seemed to be nibbling on the lizards neck. Maybe its scales were too tough and the caracals teeth felt uncomfortable biting into them?

I suspect it may have been a combination of:
1. The Caracal realized that biting the back of the lizard's neck wasn't really doing much of anything, and
2. The claws on the lizard's hind legs might have nailed the Caracal in its genitals or something.
