Sad scene in New mexico when has to wake up and find the remains of her dog which ha been attacked by a mountain lion. Apparently the lion had killed 8 other dogs in the area. I don't know how she remains so calm and matter of fact about it, if I woke up to find one of my dogs dead I would probably break down. Feel sorry for the dog though Edit: For some reason the video won't embed so I'll just provide the link Mountain lion attacks dogs Edited by Full Throttle, Apr 7 2013, 11:58 PM.

Meh, like one of the comments stated - I'm pretty sure the dogs were the ones that probably attacked the puma first. Dogs are asshole animals. I have no sympathy for this person. Sad to hear that the cat was shot and killed for following its natural instincts. |

That's just grizzly, she really should get a bigger dog, like an Ovcharka or Mastiff, they could protect her. |

protect her? I think the dogs attacked the cougar and learned the hard way. Buying a Mastiff isn't a good idea, a mastiff is expensiv, losing this dog would be very expensiv. |

Well, for a cougar to enter a yard full of dogs is quite brazen in the first place, and whilst 3 or 4 mastiffs would be a good detterent, in a fight the mastiff would usually come off worse. |

The dogs would have been following their natural instincts, instincts that helped forward humans from hunters and gathers to the dominant mammals today. Usually when dogs confront a mountain lion to attack, the cat hauls ass in a tree. Cougars do typical assult when no one was looking. Poor for both cougar and dogs. Those dogs were not LGDs or specially trained, A male Ovcharka or Mastiff should weigh more than a male Cougar than average, with bite, stamina, and weight as an advantage. The Cougar would have strength, and could damage them, but 2-3 could definitely kill or ward them off. |

Remember the fat bull mastiff that sent a larger cougar running up the hill after fighting it? |

Agree, but I've heard enough stories of lone LGDS being killed by cougars to know how a one on one fight would go, also I think there was an article posted in which a cougar attacked two anatolians, killing one and wounding the other. |

If I remember correctly the dog blindsided the cougar and sent it packing, an impressive feat but I think if the cougar had stuck around the mastiff would have been in for trouble, cougars seem to do fine killing large LGDS, and I've owned a bullmastiff and they'e got the brawn and the guts to go for a cougar, maybe even rough it up a bit but I don't think they'll be finishing the fight without a weight advantage. |

Did you see the dog's head laying on the ground? Did you see a body attached to the head? Dogs can't do that to a big cat. |

Yeah they can, the dogs head was severed because the cougar probably ate or carried away the rest, it won't have taken the dogs head off in the kill, it would have targeted the dogs neck or skull, if a big enough dog killed a cougar it could easily dismember the rest of the cat. |
