Can Spinosaurus aegyptiacus run?

This is for the ones who believe in the ~12+ tonne Spinosaurus.

Can Spinosaurus aegyptiacus run, or is it limited to walking? It's about the size of a Diplodocus or a Paraceratherium in terms of mass, also considering the massive crest, ridge or hump it had. And it's a biped to boot.

If you were to ask me, I say it can't run at all, just walk. What do you think?

Edit 8/7/16: Obviously, with what we now know of Spinosaurus, it's pretty clear this thing couldn't run with its short, semi aquatic legs.

However, before this discovery--when Spinosaurus was thought to have had normal theropod legs and weighed about as much as D. carnegii--I'm not sure if my original opinion on this would have been correct. I think it's a myth that big necessarily equals slow. Not every big animal is/was an elephant. Some large animals are/were more adapted for speed than graviportal elephants (e.g. rhinoceri, brontotheres, predatory terrestrial theropods, iguanodontians, ceratopsians, indricotheres) and consequently should be able to achieve a higher maximum speed (than elephants can manage) in life.

I too believe that it more likely walked.

No. Too heavy. A 12-14 tons Spinosaurus couldn't run.

What do you all think it's top speed would have been?

I believe somewhere in the ~10-18 kilometers/hour range.

Real running is very doubtful imo, just a quick walking, like in elephants.

Yep, Spino wouldn't be able to jump and run. It needs at least to carry those 12 tonnes somehow.

Based on what I've read ( http://www.enchantedlearning.com/dinotalk/holtzbrettsurman/questions/20euo.shtml ), somewhere btwn that of a T.rex & that of an elephant.

I assume it would be a slower predator, but still capable of running.

I think it could probably keep a stable running charge but couldn't run for long distances.

Probably. It wouldn't be fast but it could run about 15-20 mph if need be at 12+ tons in weight.

I think it could not run properly but fast walk like an elephant as stated above. for short distances it properly could exceed fast walking but not for long

I still think spinosaurus moved like a really big cormorant. Probably couldn't run too well, especially since it didn't really need to. Probably COULD move quickly for a bit if it needed to though.
