Wolverine - Gulo gulo The Wolverine is a stocky and muscular animal, considered carnivorous but known on occasion to eat plant material. It has glossy brown hair with stripes of yellow along the sides. The fur is long and dense and does not retain much water, making it very resistant to frost in the wolverine's cold habitat (this has led to some popularity amongst hunters and trappers for its use as a lining in jackets and parkas). The adult Wolverine is about the size of a medium dog, with a length in the usual range of 65-87 cm (25-34 inches), a tail of 17-26 cm (7-10 inches), and weight of 10-20 kg (22-45 lb). Males of the species are as much as 30 percent larger than the females. In appearance the Wolverine resembles a small bear with a long tail. It has been known to give off a very strong, extremely unpleasant odor, giving rise to the nicknames "skunk bear" and "nasty cat." ![]() Bonobo (Pygmy Chimpanzee) - Pan paniscus Together with the chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), the bonobo is man's closest living relative. Although a similar size to the better-known chimp, the bonobo is often referred to as the pygmy chimpanzee due to the more slender body shape of this species. Like chimpanzees, bonobos have longer forearms than legs, long fingers and mobile shoulder joints. The coat is black although it may turn grey with age and, in contrast to chimpanzees, the face is black, and the hair on the crown projects sideways, as opposed to backwards. Body mass in males ranges from 34 to 60 kg (75 to 132 lb), against an average of 30 kg (66 lb) in females. ![]() ______________________________________________________________________
What about a Bonobo instead? Edited by Taipan, Mar 12 2014, 09:06 PM.

Bonobos are much more peaceful than chimpanzees just FYI. I learned that in a Nation Geographic magazine. |

I disagree, the wolverine is too tough for the bonobo. It lacks the predatory expertise and weaponry to kill a wolverine whilst the mustelids claws and bone crushing jaws will wreak havoc on the bonobo. |

50/50 Bonobo has bit of a size advantage so that should help it, but the Wolverine is more aggressive and has razor sharp claws and teeth. Not to mention it is probably faster and more agile. |

How the hell is the bonobo too large for the wolverine? These powerful mustelids have been recorded killing prey that are many times larger than themselves, like adult deer. It won't be easy, but I think the wolverine will win. |

Wolverines have killed adult caribou and elk, although they were probably females. They use deep snow and rocky outcrops to their advantage, so you won't see a wolverine taking down a full grown elk or caribou without them. A wolverine will lose to a full grown wolf, but they have put up long nasty fights. Considering they are capable of seriously injuring a large alpha predator, and putting up one nasty fight, I don't see how the wolverine will lose to a less armed, and non sophisticated killer such as the bonobo . The ape only has its strong arms at its disposal, but the wolverine has claws and jaws, which are capable of killing large ungulates, which are herbivores, and the bonobo is a herbivore lacking the weaponry, fighting skills, and killing nature and tactics of the wolverine. I can easily see the wolverine grappling with the ape, clawing it, and biting it, while all the bonobo can do is use its arms to try and rid itself of the nasty mustelid. It will be a long struggle though. |

Yes they kill Deer, Elk, and Caribou........... in deep snow where they can't seem to move in very well as much as anywhere else. If they were on plain grass. Lets see how much of a chance a Wolverine has then.

Wolves also prefer to attack large prey in deep snow, would you consider they weak for that? Anyway, it's a fight, not a chase... Speed isn't all that important here. What I meant is that wolverines can subdue and kill much larger animals, and many users were saying the bonobo is too big for them. |
