Its a Serval to me. African Wildcats are typically striped rather than spotted (Asiatic Wildcats the reverse). |

Hyenas kill Crocodile: Hyaena are typically known to scavenge but the fearless foursome here at Tubu Tree like to find their own food sometimes; and at the risk of their own lives too. One morning we heard what sounded like hyaena fighting, so we headed in the direction of the noise. Four hyaena were seen jumping in all directions looking intently into the shallow water. Suddenly a huge jaw with sharp teeth was seen snapping at the hyaena which gave them a real fright, but this did not stop these hungry dogs from coming back and continuing the fight. A crocodile must have been crossing through the shallow waters to get to deep water when the hyaena came across him. The battle went on for some time and the tired crocodile finally succumbed to the jaws of death. The jubilant hyaena dragged their prize out of the water and started their feast. ![]() Hungry Dogs? http://www.eyesonafrica.net/updates/2011/upd_mar11-1.htm Edited by Taipan, Mar 19 2016, 07:21 PM.

It is undoubtedly a serval. By wildcat I was refering to a wild member of felidae. I was responding to a poster who believed the serval was a wild dog. |

Recently, I have found out that sugar gliders are major predators of swift parrots, breaking into nests and killing the young and adult in there. It has actually gotten to the point where sugar gliders are actually a cause for the swift parrot's decline in population, along with deforestation. Some pictures:![]() ![]() Link to the story: http://theconversation.com/sugar-gliders-are-eating-swift-parrots-but-whats-to-blame-19555 They're pretty much the mammal equivalent of great tits. (btw you guys can now post accounts from books (or other sources) of predation here as well) |
